Sprinter. Spring/Winter. It’s the WORST. Especially if you are trying to be your chic self, getting dressed can be perplexing to say the least. Take yesterday, for example: when I woke up it was pitch black and raining cats and dogs. A rivulet was threatening to wash away my driveway. I pulled a classic Cville country girl move and threw on a Barbour jacket and my Hunter boots over some Current/Elliot skinny jeans and a tunic. By 10 am when I left the office for a coffee, the blinding sunshine was well on its way to warming us up to our first 70 degree day of the season. Needless to say, I was not feeling like my best fashion self at that point. So I am reverting to my Sprinter uniform- a riff on jeans and tee. My classic baby boot cut C/E jeans and a basic shirt- white or black, t-shirt or button down.
This is the time of year to absolutely define your style with ACCESSORIES. Personally, I am all about the big statement necklace. In the shop right now we have amazing pieces by Orly Genger for Jaclyn Mayer- do you know this duo? Orly Genger is an incredible contemporary artist who creates room-sized installations out of fiber- yarn, cloth, what have you- that are seriously colorful. It’s a pretty intense sensory experience. She teamed up with jewelry designer Jaclyn Mayer and they have a collection of quirky unique pieces that add an instant shot of style to anyoutfit- especially my Sprinter uniform!
These days I’m also relying on scarves a lot. My go-to is a Matta Dupatta. They come in the most sensational array of colors, and are the perfect weight for this time of year. The tassels on the edges feel like jewelry, the fabrics are soft, and we know a dozen different ways to wear them. We just got in a new shipment and I am not kidding you when I say these scarves fly out of the store- we can hardly keep them around. Most customers have a serious collection, and I myself have been known to wear two at a time- I mean seriously, who can choose just one?
Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the fact that pulling off a basic outfit like denim and a white top relies pretty seriously on your choice of footwear. Which brings me to the one thing I do love about this time of year- you can wear boots, you can wear sandals- it’s all OKAY. That’s the best of two worlds, in my book. If you know me, you know I don’t have much use for just a “shoe.” It’s a boot or a platform sandal for this girl, and these days I can wear either- or sometimes both- in the same day. Heaven. We just got in some killer Billy Reid suede fringe clogs, and I am still really feeling the Rag & Bone Kenton boot– the platform and the heel let you literally rise above all that nasty mud.
So, hang in there- true Spring will be here before you know it! In the meantime, swing by the shop, or give us a call, and pick up some killer accessories to get you through the transition.
